What traffic court records are

When a traffic ticket is contested or requires a court appearance, the citation becomes a case in a municipal, county, or justice court. Traffic court records follow that case: the violation charged, the court dates, and how it was resolved.

What a traffic court record may show

Minor tickets that are resolved without a court appearance may leave little or no court record.

  • The violation, such as speeding or running a red light
  • Citation date and the issuing agency
  • Court, case number, and hearing dates
  • Outcome, such as dismissed, guilty, or deferred

Infractions, misdemeanors, and license records

Most tickets are civil infractions. More serious offenses, such as reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, or DUI, are usually criminal misdemeanors and appear as criminal cases. License points and status belong to a separate record kept by the state, which this search does not replace.

Questions

Before you search

Do traffic tickets show up in court records?
Contested tickets and violations that require a court appearance usually do. Tickets resolved without a court case may not.
How long are traffic court records kept?
Retention rules vary by court and state. Some courts keep minor infraction records for a limited time, while criminal traffic cases are kept much longer.
Will this show points on a license?
No. Points and license status are part of the driver record kept by the state licensing agency. This search covers available court records only.
Can I check my own traffic history?
Yes. Many people search their own name to review past citations and how they were resolved.
