Where address history comes from
People leave an address trail in many everyday records: property deeds and tax rolls, voter registrations in states that make them public, court filings, business registrations, and other public and independent sources. An address history search brings available entries together and sorts them into a timeline for a possible person match.
What an address history report may show
Dates are approximate. They reflect when an address appeared in records, not necessarily when someone moved in or out.
- Street addresses with city, state, and ZIP code
- Approximate first and last dates for each address
- Other people associated with the same address
- Phone numbers associated with the person
Common reasons for an address search
People use address history to reconnect with old friends or relatives, to send an invitation to a wedding or reunion, to confirm a mailing address for personal paperwork, or to research the places their family has lived. Please use contact details respectfully: a report must not be used to harass, stalk, or intimidate anyone.
Questions
Before you search
- Is the most recent address always current?
- Not necessarily. Records update at different speeds, so the latest address on file may lag behind a recent move.
- Why do I see addresses I don’t recognize?
- Address histories can include mailing addresses, short stays, business addresses, or entries that belong to someone with a similar name. Compare dates and other identifiers before relying on one.
- Can I search by address instead of by name?
- This search starts with a name and state. To research a property itself, such as its owners, deeds, and tax records, use the property records search instead.
- Will the person know I searched?
- No. Searches are private, and nothing is shared with the person you search for.
