What a reverse phone lookup is
A directory lookup starts with a name and returns a number. A reverse phone lookup works the other way: it starts with the number and looks for the people, businesses, and places that available records associate with it.
What a reverse phone lookup may show
Results describe associations found in records, so one number can be linked to more than one person over time.
- Names associated with the number in public and independent records
- Whether it is a mobile, landline, or VoIP line
- The carrier the number was assigned to
- Cities and addresses linked to the number or its possible owners
Reading the results
Phone numbers are recycled: when a line is disconnected, the number is eventually given to someone new. Mobile numbers can also move between carriers, and VoIP numbers can be created quickly. Look at the dates attached to each association and treat the most recent one as the best lead, not as proof.
Questions
Before you search
- Can I look up a mobile number?
- Yes. Mobile numbers can be searched, though they are often less widely listed than landlines, so identity results can be thinner.
- Why are there several names for one number?
- Numbers are reassigned and shared, so records can link one number to different people over time.
- Will the owner of the number know I searched?
- No. Searches are private, and nothing is shared with the number’s owner.
- Can I search a number outside the U.S.?
- No. This search covers U.S. phone numbers only.
